James A. Jakubowski “The Commodore”, age 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 17, 2011.

He is survived by his loving wife, Donnah; his children James (Robin), Lori (Tom) Patton, Darlene (Bob) Debri, Joni Colovos, Patricia Barrientes, Pam (Don) Johnson, Lisa Burkey, and Dianne Cameron; grandchildren Katie (Chris) Rzeppa, Sarah (Josh) Pfennig, Michael, Becky, Megan & Rachael Debri, Tiana, Amara & Dimitra Colovos, Melissa Cogan, Gilbert & Brittany Barrientes, Jennifer & Amy Johnson, Alex Cameron, Troy Tolan, Michael & Joseph Foster, and TJ & Travis Patton; great-grandchildren Isaiah Barrientes, Nick, Tyler, & Drew Rzeppa, Bri’Aysia & Brooklyn Garrison, and Cody, Joe & Nevaeh Foster; sister Norma Boyle; brothers Eugene, & Joe (Ginny) Jakubowski; and sisters-in-law Joyce & Barb Jakubowski as well as his faithful dog and companion Gabriella.

He was preceded in death by siblings Frank, Jackie, Ray, Ken, Virginia and Tom.

Jim was a dedicated worker, avid golfer, and fisherman. He took pride in being the founder and co-owner of Li’l Acres Golf Course and a Golden Gloves State Champion. However, none of his own accomplishments made him as proud as those of his children and grandchildren. He taught them that actions speaker louder than words. Thank you for always showing us that you loved us instead of simply telling us.

The family would like to thank Dr. Huang and staff, especially his RN, Rachel, for the exceptional care & support provided. In lieu of flowers, Jim has requested donations be made to the Lacks Cancer Center.

A gathering for family and friends to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, April 30th from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church Family Center, 733 Bridge St. NW, Grand Rapids. Honoring his wishes, cremation has taken place.
