James Michael Salembier passed away unexpectedly on a bright sunny day in Michigan Wednesday, March 11, 2015 with his family by his side. Jim was born in Detroit, MI to Omer and Madeleine (Van Overbeke) Salembier on May 22, 1936. James worked for over 30 years at Chrysler Corporation and retired as a pipefitter in 2004. He enjoyed putzing “Busy hands are happy hands” he would always say, dancing, fishing, cards, telling jokes and spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and is survived by his wife of 58 years, Delores; his four surviving children, Kathy Salembier of Kansas, James Salembier (Doreen) of Cary, NC, Jill Salembier of Hudsonville, MI , Gina Salembier (Chuck) of Jenison, MI. In addition, he is survived by his seven grandchildren, Tom (Sheila), Matt, Ashley (Billy), Kaitie, Kelsey, Troy, Aiden and Taya; and one great-grandchild, Charli. He is also survived by his three brothers, Joe, Mike (Rita) and Frank (Yogi) Salembier. A memorial service will be held at Holy Redeemer Parish on Baldwin Road in Jenison, MI on Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim’s memory can be made to Spectrum Health Foundation, 100 Michigan Stree NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503, the SPCA of Southwest Michigan, 6955 West KL Avenue, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, and the American Heart Association, 3940 Peninsular Drive SE, Ste 180, Grand Rapids, MI 49546; or to a charity o your choice.
Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
