Ms. Helene Irene Camp, age 61, of Stanton, passed away early Thursday morning, July 31, 2008 at Spectrum Health-Blodgett Hospital, East Grand Rapids, after a brief battle with acute leukemia. The daughter of Arthur & Cleo (Hopkins) Hemmingsen, she was born on Dec. 18, 1946 in Greenville.
A graduate of Central Montcalm High School, Helene also earned a business degree from Davenport College. She had been a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lester J. Sitts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065 in Sheridan, loved going to auctions, and delighted in her granddaughters. Helene was employed by Central Montcalm Public Schools.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Hemmingsen in 1995; and by a nephew, Ricky Hemmingsen in 2003. Surviving are her mother, Cleo Hemmingsen; her son, David S. Camp and Nancy Musser, all of Stanton; two granddaughters, Celeste Monique Camp of Stanton, and Halie Selena Camp of Crystal; a great granddaughter, Hayley Marie Fulger of Alma; a brother, Robert Hemmingsen of Grand Rapids; two nephews, Robert L. & Heather Hemmingsen of Belding, Rodney W. & Sherie Hemmingsen of Carson City; a niece, MaryJo Hemmingsen of Sidney; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family invites relatives and friends to share in a time of food and fellowship from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday at the Lester J. Sitts VFW Post (lower level) in Sheridan. Honoring Helenes wishes, cremation will take place with private burial at South Sidney Cemetery. Envelopes for memorial contributions for the familys wishes will be available.
