  • Service:  4:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008 at Central Montcalm Community Church, Sheridan

Mr. Harry Donald Hammond, age 81, of Trufant, passed away early Saturday morning, December 22, 2007 at Spectrum Health United Memorial – United Hospital, Greenville. The son of Charles Arthur & Almira C. (Still) Hammond, he was born on March 31, 1926 at Lake Station in Isabella County.

On Nov. 19, 1949, in Detroit, he married the former Marjorie Myrtle Slicker and together they raised four children. After 32 years of service, Harry retired from the former Gibson Refrigerator Company in 1977 where he worked as a press operator.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Marjorie; two brothers, Sy Hammond and Glen Hammond; and a grandson, Christopher Lee Hammond.

Surviving are his children, Donald & Teresa Hammond of Gowen, Catherine & Roger Hausler of Boyne Falls, Walter & Catherine Hammond of Trufant, George Hammond of Greenville; a sister, Ruth Maguire of Rockford; two sisters-in-law, Darlyne Slicker of Warren, and Colleen Slicker of Garland, Texas; dear friends and neighbors of 57 years, Clare & Margaret Wilson; eleven grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Jan. 12, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. at the Central Montcalm Community Church, downtown Sheridan, with a time of food and fellowship will following. The Rev. Wayne Otto, pastor of Central Montcalm Community Church, will officiate.

As Harry wished, cremation has taken place and final interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery, Evart.  Instead of flowers, contributions in Harry’s memory to either Spectrum Health Hospice or Meals On Wheels would be appreciatred.  Envelopes will be available at the church.
