Gerald L. Boyer Sr., age 90, a long-time resident of Fruitport, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 4, 2017 at Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence in Muskegon.

The son of Ralph & Lorraine (Purkiss) Boyer, he as born on August 14, 1926 in Northport.  Gerald was a proud US Navy veteran who served in WWII on the USS Benner. Following his military service he was employed at Bennett Pump Company in Muskegon Heights for over 35 years as credit manager. Gerald then married Karolyn Kay (Morgan) for 45 years until her passing in 2001. Gerald obtained his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying, country music, golf, charter boat fishing, and lots of chocolate. He had a special spot reserved in his stomach for dessert, even when he “couldn’t eat another bite”.

Gerald was proceeded in death by his parents; wife; and sister, Patricia Ann Winnick in 2003. Gerald is survived by and will be fondly remembered by his three children, Gerald Jr. (Laurie) Boyer of Grand Rapids, Jeffrey (Ratna) Boyer of Caledonia, and Janet (Joe) Zlotnicki of Fruitport; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother-in-law, Dr. Colonel Winnick of Norton Shores; along with many nieces and nephews.

No visitation or memorial service is scheduled at this time per Gerald’s wishes. Memorial Contributions can be made to Harbor Hospice Poppen Residence in his name.
