George Louis Chevis Jr., age 80 of Grand Rapids area, passed away peacefully early Sabbath (Saturday) morning December 12, 2015. George was born in Columbus, Mississippi on October 10, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Beatrice Chevis. His brothers Dennis Lee Chevis, Johnny L. Chevis, and sisters Nancy Figueroa and Callie Mae (Eugene) Glover. Survived by his 4 daughters Larna Kay (Jim) Hubert of Wyoming MI, Alecia Wilson of Grand Rapids MI, Dorothy Morris of Battle Creek MI, and Jennifer Garcia of Wyoming MI, 2 sons Chris Chevis of Kentwood MI, and Lewis Chevis of Grand Rapids MI, his sister Ophelia Prowell of Columbus MS, Lou Frances “Cookie” (Jerome) Bradley of Columbus MS, and 2 brothers Johnny Mack (Sarah) Chevis of Grand Rapids MI, and Percy Chevis of Las Vegas NV, 6 grandchildren Lakyndra, Michelle, Michael, Chris and Lavaughn, and 1 brother-in-law Leopoldo Figueroa Jr. George accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age. He was an active member of Bethel Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He had a great passion to help everyone he could by cooking for them, gardening and sharing, painting, giving people rides, and fixing their vehicles. George was a great tenor singer and he loved sharing his faith with others. We will truly miss our dad. With much love from all of us. A Memorial Service to honor him will be held at Bethel Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 1024 Adams St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI on Sunday, December 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Repass will follow service at Kentwood Library Banquet Hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to 4047 56th St. SW, Wyoming MI 49418 or the the church.
Honoring his wishes, cremation will take place. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
