Genevieve Marie Hansen, age 96, of Fenwick, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at The Laurels of Carson City with her daughters at her side.  The daughter of Albert Wilhelm & Marie Louise (Hansen) Christiansen, she was born on October 13, 1920 in Douglass Township.

Genevieve graduated the eighth grade from a one-room school house, with her maternal aunt, Elvie Petersen, as her teacher and attended Dannebrog (South Sidney) Danish Lutheran Church in her youth.  On April 21, 1945, at the South Sidney church parsonage in Greenville, she married Albert Christoffer Hansen and together they enjoyed almost 56 years of marriage and raised two daughters.

Genevieve was a long time member of Faith Lutheran Church in Sidney, a 70 year member of the Danish Sisterhood Society in Greenville, a life member of Crescent Chapter No. 47 Order of the Eastern Star in Stanton, and had been a member of the former Amsden Home Extension Club and the South Sidney Ladies Aide Society.  She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, especially making hats, mittens, and lap blankets for her church bazaar and to donate to the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans and other charities, but her greatest joy was in time spent with her family.  Her grandsons are left with fond memories of playing baseball together… with their grandmother on the pitcher's mound.

She was preceded in death by her parents;  an infant son, Harold Allen Hansen on October 21, 1948;  her husband, Albert C. Hansen on March 19, 2001; two brothers, Garfield A. Christiansen in 2004, and Erwin "Chris" Christiansen in 2007.  Surviving are her daughters, Bonnie & James Hutchinson of Cedar Springs, and Lois Hansen-Hjelle & Donald Hjelle of Sterling Heights;  three grandsons, Mark & Courtney Hutchinson of Sand Lake, Jeff & Anna Hutchinson of St. Clair, and Adam & Amy Hutchinson of Sparta;  seven great-grandchildren, Sam, Christopher "Topher", Paige, Mallory, Chloe, Carson, and Melanie "Lanie";  a brother, Kenneth Christiansen of Charlevoix; and many, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

As Genevieve wouldn't have wanted to interrupt the Father's Day holiday, her visitation will be held on Saturday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville.  Visitation will also take place from 10-11 a.m. on Monday at Faith Lutheran Church, 2957 S. Grow Road, Sidney, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday.  The Rev. John Autio, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church, will officiate and burial will follow at South SidneyCemetery.

Instead of flowers, Genevieve would have appreciated contributions in her memory to either Faith Lutheran Church, 2957 S. Grow Road, Sidney, MI 48885 or Friends of South Sidney Cemetery, Inc., C/O Paula Christiansen, Treasurer, 108 W. South Street, Greenville, MI 48838.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church.

To send a message of sympathy to the family, sign Genevieve's online guest book, or to share a favorite memory, please visit:  Arrangements are entrusted to Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, Greenville.
