Frances Lucille Mogdis, age 93, of Clifford Lake, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Spectrum Health Rehab & Nursing Center in Greenville. The youngest of four children born to Genevieve (Garrett) & Franz Joseph Maurer, she was born on November 11, 1920 and grew up on a farm between Nashville and Hastings.

Following her graduation from Nashville High School she attended Western Michigan University, where she met her husband, Joseph Mogdis. Togther they had three children and later divorced. In 1946 she moved her family to Hastings and began her career as a single mom working as a night operator for the Michigan Bell Telephone Company.

As she was promoted over the years, her career included stops in Caledonia, Ionia, Charlotte, Lansing, and finally Grand Rapids. By the time of her retirement as “Chief Operator” of the Grand Rapids office, she was the highest ranking woman employee within the Michigan Bell system. In 1964 she bought a cottage on Clifford Lake and retired there. She also wintered in Clearwater, Florida, was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church, and delighted in time spent with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Helen and Agnes; and a brother, Phillip, Surviving are her children, Franz & Diane Mogdis of Clifford Lake, Karen & Larry Deuel of Clifford Lake, and Stephen Mogdis of Sand Lake; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren; and many other dear nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of Frances’ devoted caregivers at Spectrum Health for the special care and concern that was given to her over the past seven years.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at St. Charles Catholic Church, 505 S. Lafayette Street, Greenville, with the Rev. Father Michael F. Cilibraise presiding. Instead of flowers, contributions to Spectrum Health Rehab & Nursing Center (in care of the Spectrum Health United & Kelsey Hospitals Foundation, 703 S. Marvel Dr., Greenville, MI 48838) would be appreciated.
