Mrs. Evalyn Venietta Blodgett, 84, formerly of Greenville, passed away Monday morning, July 6, 2009 at Citizens Hospital, Victoria, Texas, with her eldest daughter was by her side.

The daughter of Hans Herbert & Alma Anna (Rydahl) Hansen, she was born on Jan. 12, 1925 in Greenville, and had four sisters and a brother.

As a little girl she could remember their family walking downtown for an ice cream cone. When the depression came along it put an end to those ice cream trips. Evalyn attended Pearl Street School from kindergarten through sixth grade, graduating from Greenville Senior High School. During World War II she worked for a while at the Gibson Refrigerator Company building gliders for the Army war effort.

Before the war she met Paul E. Blodgett while he was working at the original Meijer Grocery. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and they corresponded all the while during the war. Upon his return, they were married on Dec. 22, 1945 at the First Congregational Church in Greenville, and had three children: Paula Teek, Charles, and Marcia.

Evalyn saw all her children graduate from Holt High School near Lansing, Michigan. Even during hard times they managed some type of summer vacation each year for their family. Evalyn worked for the State of Michigan as Permit Supervisor for 17 years. She and Paul retired and spent many years wintering in Texas from their beloved Michigan home. For the last two years Evalyn and Paul stayed nearer to their children in Texarkana, Texas.

Her husband of 63 years, Paul E. Blodgett, preceded her in death on Palm Sunday, April 5th of this year. Surviving are their three children, Paula Teek & Danny Miller of Port OConnor, Texas, Charles & Margaret Blodgett, and Marcia & Morris Hodgson, all of Mena, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Paul Blodgett and Dorin Blodgett, both of Wyoming, Rachel Caraway, Benjamin & Angie Caraway; a great granddaughter, Callie Caraway, all of Texas; two sisters, Marcia Corey and Inez & Richard Taylor, all of Greenville; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where the family will receive relatives and friends from 10-11 a.m. on Thursday.
