Mrs. Etta L. Sunny Tillapaugh, age 95, of Greenville, passed away Saturday morning, Jan. 13, 2007 at her home under the loving care of her family and Hospice. The daughter of James M. & Edith M. (Stevens) Kimmel, she was born on Sept. 19, 1911 in Logansport, Indiana. On Nov. 6, 1928, in South Bend, Ind., she married Harley Winslow Tillapaugh, Sr.
Etta had worked as a dental assistant for the late Dr. Earl Faber and had attended the First Congregational Church in Greenville. A skilled seamstress, she also kept an immaculate home and enjoyed singing, dancing, and playing cards. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley Tillapaugh in 1977; four sisters; four brothers; a son, Harley Jack Tillapaugh, Jr. in 2002; and a son-in-law, Arthur Cliff in 2001.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Cliff of Greenville; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Tillapaugh of Fort Wayne, Indiana; five grandchildren, Mary & Randy Merren, Barbara & Larry Jensen, and David & Brenda Cliff, all of Greenville, Marjorie & Jeff Snyder of Grattan, and Mark & Chris Tillapaugh of Fort Wayne, Indiana; her great grandchildren, Adriane & Dr. Shawn Ruth, Amy & Justin Nichols, all of Greenville, Jillian Cliff of Hudsonville, Scott Cliff, stationed with the U.S. Army in Texas, Jordan Cliff of Greenville, Sarah DeGood, and Samantha Patterson, both of Grattan, Matthew Tillapaugh, Marcus Tillapaugh, Kristen Tillapaugh, and Lindsey Tillapaugh, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana; step-great grandchildren, Dustin & Jessica Johnson, Trinity Cliff, Trevor Merren, Traci & Jeremy Lawrence, all of Greenville, and Cody Snyder of Grattan; two great-great granddaughters, Paige Nielsen and Rylan Cliff; two special nieces, Beverly Miller of Tempe, Arizona, and Dinah & Rev. Jacob Knoedeler of Melbourne, Florida; and many other nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, 2007 at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, with the Rev. Jerry Jones, pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiating. Visitation with the family is on Friday from 2-3 p.m. at the funeral home, where envelopes for memorial contributions to either the First Congregational Church or Spectrum Health Hospice will be available.
