Eleanor Jean  “Bunny” (Molinosky) Shimmel, 90, of Ada, entered her heavenly home  Wednesday morning surrounded by her family and friends, under the care of Faith Hospice. The daughter of Barney & Lula (Joslyn) Molinosky, was born September 4, 1927 in Grand Rapids.

 

Eleanor was known to be artistically inclined in multiple mediums such as; baking, cooking, gardening, calligraphy, gift wrapping, and painting. She enjoyed music, dancing, and bingo. Bunny was known for her no-nonsense, tough love attitude, she was always willing to open her home and heart to others, sharing her words of wisdom and comfort to all.

 

Eleanor spent her young adult years being a part of the USO, in Sault Ste. Marie, and volunteering for many years at the American Cancer Society. She worked outside the home for Doehler Jarvis  and Amway and enjoyed farming alongside her husband, Huby.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hurbert Shimmel; son and daughter in law, Richard & Janice Verkerke; and son in law, Nicholas Veenkamp.

 

Eleanor will be sadly missed and remembered by her children, Sandi Veenkamp,  and Mark & Gloria Shaffer; sisters, Marilyn Talcott, Mildred Diamon, and Lois Hekman; grandchildren, Amy Aranowski, Aaron & Susan Veenkamp, Tyler Veenkamp, Monica & Josh Rohs, Jennifer & Brandon Duprey, Matthew Schaffer, and Sean Shaffer; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Aranowski, Madison Veenkamp, Alec Veenkamp, and Ryan Duprey.

 

The family would like to give a heartful thank you to special care givers, Kathy Driscoll, Theresa Davis, Lori Hubner, Joyce Howe, Jerri Young, and Linda Ford and Kim Doyle, all who gave exceptional loving care to Eleanor during her time of need. Eleanor will be remembered by her faithful friends, Diane & Jim Sytsema, Dottie & Al Lacic, Denny Cummings; special helper, Kyle Birman; and long time neighbor, Sharon Sleeman.

 

Visitation is from 10-11 a.m on Wednesday at Ada Bible Church, 8899 Cascade Road SE, Ada, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m on Wednesday, with a luncheon to follow. Chaplain Dewey of Faith Hospice, will officiate and burial will take place privately.
