Mrs. E. Elaine Peterson, age 89, of Greenville and Plant City, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Monday evening, Sept. 10, 2007 from her brothers home in Zephyrhills, Florida. The daughter of Sephus & Elsie (Lavendar) Hansen, she was born Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 1917 in Greenville. After graduating from Greenville High School in 1936, she earned her teaching certificate from Montcalm County Normal. She then taught country school and on Nov. 16, 1940 she married Kenneth F. Peterson.

Together they farmed on Fitzner Road in Montcalm Township and were members of the Farm Bureau. She had also worked at the Ford dealership in Greenville as a secretary and bookkeeper. A long time member of the Langston Church, she taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and played the piano at church. In Plant City, Florida, she attended the First Baptist Church and also sang in the choir. Throughout her life, she enjoyed growing gladiolas and roses, as well as collecting stuffed animal toys.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband of nearly 65 years, Kenneth F. Peterson on April 5, 2005; and two brothers-in-law, Russell Peterson and Curtis Peterson.

Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Russell & Dorace Hansen of Greenville and Zephyrhills, Florida; a sister-in-law, Dorothy M. Peterson of Lakeland, Florida; special friends, Mildred & Bill Lanz of Greenville; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Sweetie.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007 at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, with the Rev. James Frank, retired pastor of Galilee Baptist Church of Saranac, officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Langston.

Envelopes for memorial contributions to the Langston Church will be available at the funeral home, where the family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until 1:00 p.m.
