Edward Van Allen, age 90, died Friday, May 4, 2012 after a short illness. He closed his eyes on earth and opened them in Heaven, stepping into the arms of his Savior. Ed was a faithful servant of God, a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 65 years, Jane Brouwer Van Allen; children, Kris and Jay Render, Pam Corbin, Steven and Barbara Van Allen, Dan and Judy Van Allen; grandchildren, Kelly and Stacey Render, Jason Render and Chrystal Taylor, Allison and Steven Hildebridle, Sean and Sara Corbin, Mark and Carolyn Van Allen, Mary and Tom Zeilstra, Laura and Dan VandenBerg, Colleen and Mike Velting, Kristen Van Allen, Erin Van Allen, Russ Van Allen; and 15 great-grandchildren. Ed honorably served his country during World War II in the South Pacific campaigns.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. John Mauer for the many years of wonderful care he provided to Ed. Also to the nurses and staff on 4-G at Blodgett Hospital for the compassion and great care shown to Ed while he was a patient on their unit.

A memorial service will be held at 7 PM on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at New Life Reformed Church, 973 28th St. SE Grand Rapids, MI. A time of fellowship will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to the Wounded Warriors Project. See you later, Tiger!
