Dorothy Elaine Williams, 87, of Greenville, passed away Saturday morning, Oct. 6, 2007 at her home under the loving care of her family and Spectrum Health Hospice. The daughter of Hugh & Lillian (Sass) Silverthorne, she was born on March 7, 1920 in Greenville.

A 1937 graduate of Greenville High School, Dorothy later earned her nursing diploma and worked as a licensed practical nurse at the former United Memorial Hospital for 25 years, and then at the former Christensens Nursing Home.

A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Dorothy also was a Foster Grandparent for 11 years. She attended the Greenville Bible Methodist Church and enjoyed playing bingo.

On April 29, 1938, in Grand Rapids, she married Douglas B. Williams, who preceded her in death in 1967. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Hugh Silverthorne and Robert Silverthorne; a sister, Donna Krampe; and a son-in-law, Michael Simmons.

Surviving are her children, Karen Simmons of Olympia, Washington, Thomas & Ruth Williams of Sidney, and Richard & Linda Williams of Cass City; three sisters, Marjorie Ingersoll, Virginia & Bob Lincoln, and Frances Merren; two brothers, Harry & Patricia Silverthorne, and Ethan & Virginia Silverthorne, all of Greenville; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, 2007 at the Brown-Teman & Christiansen Funeral Home, Greenville, with visitation from 2-4 p.m. Burial will take place on Monday at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding.
