Dorothy Jean Davidson, age 88, of Grand Rapids, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 14, 2017. She passed away at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital surrounded by family. The daughter of Frederick and Celia (Waterman) Morrison, she was born on July 16, 1929 in Detroit.

Dorothy was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved to spend time together playing cards and games. We will long remember the many family vacations to Florida and Disneyworld. Dorothy was a sweet, kind person and a good friend to many. She enjoyed crafting, golfing, and traveling with friends.

Dorothy had a strong faith in God throughout her life. She instilled faith driven principles and values in her family. We rejoice at her passage into heaven and will meet her there.

She was preceded in death by her parents. She leaves behind her loving husband of 67 years, Ray Davidson; daughters, Nancy (Alan) Simpson and Beth VanOver; grandchildren, Andrew (Jen) Vanover and Meredith (Chris) Podehl; great grandchildren, Eli, Hazel, Reuben Vanover, and Baby Podehl due in February; sister, Margaret Nelligan Jones; niece, Kathy (Ray) Kellogg; and nephew, Donald Nelligan Jr..

The family wishes to thank the many health care providers at Spectrum Health who gave such excellent and compassionate care to Dorothy as she faced many health challenges in recent years. They are too numerous to name, but in particular, she loved her physicians Dr. David Lieuwen and Dr. Richard McNamara.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21, 2017 at Thornapple Covenant Church, 6595 Cascade Rd. S.E., Grand Rapids, with visitation one hour prior and light refreshments to follow the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
