Diane Esther Best, aged 75, of Wyoming, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home after a reoccurrence of renal cell cancer, with daughter, Amy, at her bedside, on Thursday, November 3, 2016.  She was born on October 2, 1941, in Albion, Michigan, to Glenn Richard and Janice Faythe (Angell) Cooper.  She is preceded in death by her parents, granddaughter, April Rozelle, sister and brother-in-law, Daphne and Richard Russell, nephew Richard Russell, Jr., his wife, Teresa Russell and their son, Joshua Russell, her aunt and uncle Esther (Pat) and Robert (Bill) Joslin, and daughter-in-law Lorena Best.

Diane attended Albion College from 1959-1962, returning in 1985-1986, and graduating with her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  In 2000, Diane obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Phoenix.  In the interim, she substitute taught in the Albion area schools before moving to Portage to teach.

Diane later worked at Job Corps in the Detroit area, as well as what is now Gerald R. Ford Job Corps in a Grand Rapids, Michigan.  She used her extensive knowledge, experience and caring nature to further serve her community as a volunteer at Celebrate Recovery in Grand Rapids, and by volunteering as leader of a depression support group, also in Grand Rapids.

Diane’s hobbies included sewing, cross-stitch, reading, cooking, playing bingo, spending time with friends and traveling.

Diane is survived by children Richard R. Best of Salinas, California, Janice (Catherine Kerley) Best of Albion, Michigan, Jon Best of Los Angeles, California, Amy (Bill) Rozelle of Wyoming, Michigan, and their father Richard (Dick) Best.  She is further survived by cousins Ruth Ann Joslin and Darlene Baker, three grandchildren, Darci Rozelle, Holli Rozelle and Raymond Best, five great-grandchildren, Codi, Bryce, Peyton, Blaine and Preston, one great-great-granddaughter, Nolah, and ten nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Diane will be held on Friday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. at River of God Church, located at 4607 68th Street (West of Wilson), Byron Center, Michigan 49315.  Please join us in celebrating Diane’s life.

Honoring her wishes, cremation will take place. Arrangements are entrusted to Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Grand Rapids.
