David Gillson, 72, of Orleans, passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2017 at home under the care of his wife, Dona, and Spectrum Health Hospice.
The son of George & Doris (Wheeler) Gillson, he was born November 3, 1944 in Ionia.
On September 26, 1969, in Jasper, Texas, he married Dona Furman and together, they enjoyed 47 years of marriage. David was a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam Era with his canine partner, Gretchen.
David was preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife Dona; his children, Mark Gillson, Garet Gillson, Michael Gillson, and Robert Cooper; his brother, Craig & Starr Gillson, of Sheridan; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

We met Dave and Dona in FL a few years ago and immediately became friends. Dave was a great guy with a great sense of humor. Our sincere condolences to Dona and family.
Dona-I am so sorry to hear about David’s passing. I know you and he had many (47!) years of happy memories. I believe at a time like this your memories-and being able to talk about them-are what keeps you going.
