Darlene Evette Richmond, age 49, of Grand Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 23, 2016. The eleventh child and the baby of the family, she was born to Carl A. & Marilyn (Trammell) Richmond on January 5, 1967 at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.

Darlene was baptized by the Rev. William C. Abney at Bethel Pentecostal at a young age. She attended Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids, where she graduated in 1985.

One of Darlene’s most cherished pastimes was feeding the ducks with her grandson, and also liked candles, taking pictures and collecting cupcakes… she was known as the “Cupcake Lady”.

Surviving are two sons, William Rashaad Hairston-Richmond, and Darrius Devante Hairston-Richmond Sr.; a grandson, Darrius Devante Hairston-Richmond Jr.; five sisters, Sarah & Joe Scott of Baltimore, Maryland, Leona & Candy Richmond-Woods, Sherrie & Kevin Gillespie, Laureen “Renie” Richmond, and Robin Richmond-Belton, all of Grand Rapids; four brothers, Allen Wells of Bristol, Tennessee, Carl H. & Alison Richmond of Hague, Virginia, David & Cascella Brandon of Lansing, and Wendell Richmond of Muskegon; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends that she loved dearly. Also surviving are “her honey”, Cale Rambo; and her best friend, Lolita “Cookie” Grant, and her husband Eric.

Darlene will always be remembered for her uplifting Facebook posts:

“Good morning everyone! I pray for you and your loved ones. Be blessed with good health and peace of mind. May the Lord show is all favor… in Jesus name, Amen-“

Darlene and I met in middle school at Iroquois. What a great time we would always have. Never did I see her without Lolita by her side. I live in Georgia now and when I would come home, I would sometimes run into Darlene. I will keep the family and her boys in my prayers.
