Daniel Scott Paxson, age 67, of Grand Rapids, passed away Saturday, Dec. 26, 2015 at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans with his family at his side.

The son of Alvin J. & Marcelina M. (Doty) Paxson, he was born on May 30, 1948 and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Staff Sergeant.  An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents;  and his wife, Donna (Domes) Paxson in 2006.

Surviving are his children, Scott (Julie) Paxson of Wayland, Karen (John) Boyles of Prattville, Alabama, Kimberly (Jason Perez) Paxson of Wyoming, Shari Smeltzer of Millbrook, Alabama, and Theresa (Robert) Ergang of Caledonia;  a sister, Kathy (Ray) Funk of Burnips;  a maternal aunt, Irene (Ron) Johnson of Kentwood;  and many, many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Honoring his wishes, private services with full military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery.  Instead of flowers, Dan would have appreciated contributions in his memory to either the Friends of the Michigan Veterans Homes or the Wounded Warrior project.
