Dale Leon Bergakker, 83, of Grand Rapids, passed away Tuesday, July 10, at Addington Place of Grand Rapids, with his family at his side.

The son of Peter & Winnie (Schryvers) Bergakker, he was born May 30, 1935 in Harrison, South Dakota. On June 9, 1956, in Grand Rapids, he married Karyl Jean Comp and together they raised five children and enjoyed 60 years of marriage.

Surviving are their children, Curtis & Kathleen Bergakker, Darwin Bergakker, Debra & Ken Kelley, Patricia & Mark Currier, and Kathleen & Dan Popma,; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-four great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 14, 2018 at Community Christian Reformed Church, 150 Burt Avenue S.E., Wyoming, where memorial services will start promptly at 11 a.m., with a luncheon immediately to follow. Burial will take place privately at Kent Memorial Gardens.

    Thank you for the memories and the laughs you gave and had with me.Forever grateful for that. You got life’s checkered flag and now on to victory lane.     I remember the frist time I met you, you made a comment about a tee shirt I was wearing, it was a security shirt you had mentioned that you use to be a security guard and liked my shirt I gave it to you.
    I was told you lived that shirt and wore it all the time.
    I’m very blessed to be consider part of the family & I truly will miss you pops.

    If ever I could have chosen my own father it would have been Dale. Having spent so much time in my high school years on the farm, delivering the press and eating gross popcorn with goose grease on it my life has been enriched knowing both Dale and Kayrl.
