Mrs. Carma V. Carman, age 94, of Greenville, formerly of Petersburg, passed away Wednesday morning, Aug. 8, 2007 at the Long Term Care Unit of Spectrum Health United Memorial-United Campus, Greenville, after a brief illness. The daughter of Walter W. & Hazel (Beihl) Wagner, she was born on Sept. 13, 1912 in Metamora, Ohio. After graduating high school, she attended Lenawee County Normal and Eastern Michigan College and earned her teaching certificate. She then taught school until marrying Golden Carman on Oct. 20, 1936 in Deerfield.

Together they operated their cash crop and dairy farm until Golden passed away in 1983. In Petersburg, she was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church and was active with the Mary Martha Circle. In 1985, she moved to Greenville to be closer to her son and his family, and became a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. Throughout her life, she enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Louis & Cathy Carman of Greenville; two granddaughters, Heather Jones and her husband, William, of Belding, and Cynthia Carman-Rasch, and her husband Patrick of Belding; a great granddaughter, Carman Jones, at home; four step-grandchildren, Susanna & Bruce Day of Six Lakes, Elizabeth & Kevin Lanz of Ionia, Michael & Rebecca Oliver, stationed with the U.S. Coast Guard in Virginia, and Brian & Kimberly Oliver, stationed with the U.S. Army in Colorado; seven step-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside committal services are at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007 at Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg, with the Rev. Mark Flory, pastor of St. Peters Lutheran Church, officiating.

Honoring her wishes, cremation has already taken place. The family wishes to express their grateful appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Long Term Care and suggest that in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. Carman be directed to either the Long Term Care Unit at Spectrum Health United Memorial or Hospice of Michigan.
