Calvin J. Couturier, age 58, of Comstock Park, passed away on January 6, 2010, at Spectrum Health-Butterworth Hospital, Grand Rapids, surrounded by his loving family.

Calvin was born in Detroit on April 2, 1951, the son of Robert and Margaret (Schaub) Couturier. Calvin was a people person and very service oriented, often helping everyone with their projects. He was an easy person to get to know and a very hard worker. Calvin loved cars and enjoyed working on them. A true renaissance man, Calvin played the guitar, enjoyed music, wrote poetry, and could fix or repair anything. Calvin’s family was his number one priority and he absolutely adored his grandchildren.

Calvin is survived by his mother, Margaret Hawley; son, Jeremy (Alison) Couturier; daughters, Bethany (Shamon) Cole and Megan Couturier; and four grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings, Gloria (Bernie) Couturier, Carol (Al) Couturier, Thomas (Andrea) Couturier, Ruth (Kevin) Kaye, Randy (Amy) Couturier. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. with the rosary and wake service at 7 p.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lake Leelanau, on Monday, January 11 at 10 a.m. with a visitation held one hour prior. The Reverend Michael Janowski will serve as celebrant. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
