Barbara J. Swartout, age 84, of Turk Lake, Greenville, passed away Monday morning, August 12, 2019 at Addington Place at East Paris in Grand Rapids.  The daughter of Guy & Bessie Louise (Lockhart) Wooten, she was born on November 11, 1934 in Lansing.

On Jan. 16, 1954, at Lansing, she married Roger D. Swartout and together they raised two daughters and enjoyed 54 years of marriage until Roger passed away on August 20, 2009.  Barbara was a long-time member of Oakfield Baptist, and played guitar and wrote Christian music.  Also a talented artist, she had attended several art classes over the years at Montcalm Community College and enjoyed painting, having displayed her artwork at Danish Festival, but her greatest joy was in time spent with her family.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy & Scott Mouthaan of Kent City, and Sherry & Ross See of Dallas, Georgia; five grandchildren, Kim & Carvas Jones, Ryan & Lara See, Melissa & Trokan Dukly, Katelyn Mouthaan & Justin Stewart, and Leslie & Jason Norman; and seven great-grandchildren with an eighth due in October;  three brothers, Robert Wooten, Rick & Ann Wooten, and Randy & Lori Wooten; a special niece, Cathy Anderson;  and several other dear nieces and nephews.

Graveside committal services are at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 4444 W. Grand River Avenue, Lansing.  Barbara, a lover of all animals, would  appreciate contributions in her memory (instead of flowers) to either the Humane Society of Mid-Michigan,  P.O. Box 577, Stanton, MI 48888 or Kindred Hospice, 625 Kenmoor S.E., Ste. 115, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
