Alfred Lee Marlin, Sr., age 72, of Greenville, passed away Saturday evening, September 22, 2018 after a short battle with cancer at his home under the loving care of his family and Spectrum Health Hospice. The son of Frank Alfred & Ida Jane (Benner) Marlin, he was born on February 22, 1946. In 1967 he married Bonnie Jean Campbell and together they raised two sons.
Al retired from the former Tower Automotive and always enjoyed meeting and visiting with people. He will be remembered for his quick wit, wise cracks, and snappy come-backs. In retirement, Al worked as a greeter at the Greenville Wal-Mart. He was especially proud of his 1976 orange Chevrolet Corvette and delighted in participating in car shows around the area.
He was preceded in death by his father, Frank A. Marlin on November 6, 1962; his mother, Ida J. Marlin on August 12, 2003; and a brother, Don Whitney.
Surviving are his wife, Bonnie Marlin of Greenville; two sons, Alfred Marlin, Jr. of Greenville, and Frank Marlin of Fenwick; a brother, Frank David Marlin of Greenville; four grandchildren, Jeremy Lee Marlin of Greenville, Stacy Lynne Marlin of Sheridan, Samantha Marie Marlin of Texas, and Stephanie Nicole Marlin of Greenville; six great-grandchildren, Dravin Lee Marlin, Majesty Marlin, Landyn Michael Riggs, Frankie Kelly, Arien Bennett, and Elijah Bennett; and many other dear relatives and friends.
Visitations are from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on both Tuesday and Wednesday at Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville. Honoring Al's wishes, no formal services will be held and burial will take place privately at Ashley Cemetery.
