Joan Evelyn (Rogers) Devlin passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, December 12, 2022 in Kentwood, MI at the age of 72. She was born on October 13, 1950 in Columbus, Mississippi to William Sykes and Mary E. White.
Joan attended Muskegon Public Schools and Ferris State University. She began modeling after high school and later worked at Old Kent Bank and Fifth-Third Bank as a trust officer. In 1976, Joan moved from Muskegon to Grand Rapids and continued to reside there until her passing. She was known for her organizational skills and keeping a neat and clean home. Joan could be found listening to R&B music or spending time with her beloved dogs, Mikey and Murphy. Joan’s faith was a large part of her everyday life. She loved the Lord immensely and lived her life with His purpose in mind. Most importantly was her family. Joan doted on her grandchildren and loved the time she spent with them.
Joan is survived by her children, Todd (Shauna Baker) Faasse and Danielle (Eric) Scholtens; four grandchildren, Isaac, Will, Judah, and Levi; sister, Portia Kidd; nieces, Shannon and Ashley Morris; aunt, Lillie “Bell” Hicks; cousin, Elmetris Robinson; cherished family friend, Floyd Cook; and many other beloved family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Devlin; mother, Mary E. White and step-father, Herman White; father, William Sykes; grandmother, Lillie B “Mama Lil” Rogers; and aunt, Sarah Culp. Per Joan’s wishes, cremation will take place and a Private Memorial Service will be held for family and close friends.
