Mary Grasiewicz

Mary Catherine (Westphal) Grasiewicz, age 90, of White Cloud, Michigan passed away peacefully with loved ones at her side on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at her home. The daughter of John & Gertrude (DuBois) Westphal, she was born on January 9 1932 in Long Beach California, then later moved to Grandville, Michigan. She grew up in Grandville and lived in the Kent County area for many years before moving north when her husband retired. Her greatest love was her family. Her love for babies, dogs and being a jokester continued throughout her life. She also enjoyed gardening and watching her hummingbirds. She looked forward to her yearly outing to the casino with her family and many times she was the only one that came home a winner. She loved to play cards, poker being her favorite. A true gambler at heart. She also played Sequence and Rummy and was so happy when she won a game. Mom was known as the Brandy Lady in her community. She enjoyed making Brandy (which takes five months) and passing it out to her special friends (even though she didn't drink it). She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Grasiewicz; a son, Darwin Miller; a daughter, Mary Gray; a grandson, Matthew Clifford, and a niece, Beth Alberda Nielsen. Her hearts she left behind are her children, Daniel & Paula Sargent, Leslie & John Hage, and Dawn Sargent; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; her sister, Jeanette Alberda Ruse; and her friend and neighbor, Meta Head, who kept Mom supplied with homemade goodies and beautiful flowers. Mom was so proud to have lived to see five generations in her family. Per her wishes cremation has taken place and no formal services will be held. The family would like to thank Spectrum Health Hospice and Palliative Care for the care, compassion and support given to our mom and family.
