Mary Louise Crittenden, age 97, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at Spectrum Health-United Hospital in Greenville with her family at her side. The daughter of Douglas Henry & Lorena Louise (Staebler) Weese, she was born on April 17, 1922 in Dowagiac and had worked as a teller, clerk, and bookkeeper in banking and financial services.
In retirement, she moved to Racine, Wisconsin to be closer to her daughter and her family, and then ten years later moved to Greenville to be closer to her son and his family and assisted her son in the office at his medical practice and was a member of the First Congregational Church. Mary loved God, her family, and playing bridge.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lt. John A. "Jack" Weese, who was killed in action over Normandy Beach as a fighter pilot in World War II; two sisters, Virginia Ahling and Nancy Burgett, and a son, Scott Douglas Crittenden. Surviving are her children, Ann & Jeff Hutler of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Dr. David B. & Tonya Crittenden of Greenville; eight grandchildren, Brian & Lee-Ann Hutler, Adam Hutler, Kelly & Peter Schmeltzer, Micah Crittenden, Benjamin Crittenden, Jacob & Jade Crittenden, Matthew Crittenden, and Hannah Crittenden; three great-grandchildren, Noah Hutler, Kate Schmeltzer, and Emma Schmeltzer; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
The family wishes to extend their special thanks to all of Mary's physicians, nurses, staff, and caregivers at Spectrum Health Rehabilitation & Nursing Center for their care, concern, and compassion.
Private family services will be held and final interment will be in the First Congregational Church Columbarium in Greenville. The Rev. Dan Maguire, Sr. of Calvary Baptist Church will officiate.
