Mark Houston

Mark Houston died peacefully at home on December 2, 2017 in Fremont at the age of 61. Mark was born on December 31, 1955 in Detroit to Ralph and Margaret Houston. He graduated from Wayne State University, where he played football and wrestled. He married Mary Rickman, his high school sweetheart, in 1981. After moving to Los Alamos, New Mexico, he began working for Pueblo Junior High School as a teacher and coach. In 1984 they moved back to Michigan where Mark worked at Holton High School, and before retiring, worked at Fremont High School. Over many years Mark and Mary welcomed three children into their home, as Mark continued to not only be an influence on his own children, but countless others through both his teaching and coaching. His children remember him as a driven and loyal father who encouraged them to pursue their goals and aspirations to their fullest potential, whether he agreed with them or not. Mark was an accomplished teacher and coach and expected perfection from his students and players. He was a dedicated and fiercely loyal individual who loved the outdoors. The family would like to thank family, friends, and the Hospice caregivers for their support, care, and dedication. Mark is preceded in death by his father, Ralph. He is survived by his wife, Mary; children, Katie (Kevin), Alex (Tracey), and Mac (Casey); siblings, Linda (Mike), Barbara (Chris), and Robert (Melissa); and his mother, Margaret. A celebration of life will take place on December 9, 2017 from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Houston home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mark's life.
