Margaret Lorraine (Horricks) Irish, age 88, passed away Thursday evening, August 26, 2021 at Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, surrounded by loved ones.
The daughter of Thomas & Mary (Brecht) Rempp, she was born on July 29, 1933 in Crystal Township, and grew up in the Carson City area. On December 5, 1953 she married Elton James Horricks in Stanton. She took night classes and graduated from Carson City High School with the class of 1970. She married Robert "Buster" Irish on June 9, 1986.
Margaret picked apples at Regis Orchards, worked at the Chrysler Trim Plant in Lyons, Lobdell-Emery in Alma and as a guard at Electrolux in Greenville. Margaret was a strong worker and sometimes it would take two men to replace her at a job. She was a Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary and a member of Mt. Hope United Brethren Church in Carson City. She was a Den Mother for Boy Scout Troop #3110 in Crystal and the PeeWee and Little League coach for Crystal Team #1. She loved to play softball, gardening, sewing, cutting wood, and playing with her grandkids.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas & Mary Rempp; her husbands, Elton Horricks and Robert Irish; fifteen brothers and sisters; a son, Roger Rempp; step-sons Elton Horricks Jr., Joe VanAlstine and Randy Irish; step son-in-law, Mike Devereaux; and her grandchildren Joseph VanAlstine Jr., Wendall Wayne Goodrich and Kelly (Lehner) Sherman.
Surviving are three sons, Rodney & Janet Horricks of Lakeview, E.J. & Elizabeth Horricks of Carson City, Daniel & Debra Horricks of New Town, North Dakota; a daughter, Rosemary & Richard Lehner of Perrinton; daughter-in-law, Deb VanAlstine of New Boston; two step-sons, Essa Horricks of Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Joseph & Cheryl Irish of Ionia; a step-daughter, Peggy Devereaux of Canadian Lakes; one brother, Byron Rempp of Crystal; twenty-six grandchildren; forty-five great-grandchildren; and eleven great-great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at 12 Noon on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Mt. Hope United Brethren Church, 5011 Mount Hope Road, Carson City. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either the Mt. Hope United Brethren Church of Carson City or the Fowler VFW Post No. 3733 (for their hospital equipment fund).
