Lloyd L. DeWitt, age 94, of Greenville, passed away early Saturday morning, August 28, at Spectrum Health United Hospital. The son of Thomas & Hazel (Patterson) DeWitt, he was born on March 14, 1927 in Fremont.
After graduating high school, Lloyd served in the United States Army, attained the rank of corporal, and was a veteran of World War II. A skilled mechanic and auto body repairman, Lloyd was self-employed most of his working years and will long be remembered for his ability to fix just about anything. He enjoying dancing -- well into his late 80's, hunting and fishing, and socializing with friends, but most of all delighted in spending time with his family.
On October 9, 1954, at the First Baptist Church parsonage, he married the former Wanda Jean King and together they raised four children and enjoyed fifty years of marriage until Wanda passed away on January 1, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Judy Jewell; and two sisters, Vivian Honderd and Thelma Young.
Surviving are his children, Sherry & Bob Higgins of Greenville, Bruce DeWitt & Rita Grabinski of Greenville, and Hugh DeWitt of Walker; five grandchildren, Scott, Teague, Todd, Jennifer, Samuel, and Benjamin; five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and his good friend, Bob Wuelfing.
Graveside committal services are at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 3, 2021at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, 8690 Storey Road (M-91), Belding, with Pastor Jeff Wilhelm of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church officiating. Military honors, rendered jointly by the United States Army and the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101, will conclude the ceremonies.
