Julia Hawes, age 82, of Greenville, passed away Monday, March 4, 2019 surrounded by her family in Greenville. The daughter of Frank & Opal (Bailey) Lintz, she was born on July 30, 1936 in Kenton, Ohio. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Julia had also been a member of the Ladies Auxiliaries at the Ray I. Booth American Legion Post 101 in Greenville and the Lester J. Sitts Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5065 in Sheridan.
She was a devoted fan of the Detroit Tigers, liked finding a bargain at yard sales, and enjoyed her trips to the casino with her four girls -- but her greatest joy was in time spent with her family.
On October 30, 1964, in Stanton, she married Dale D. Hawes, Sr. and together they enjoyed forty-five years of marriage until Dale passed away on November 14, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred Hansen; a daughter, Cheryl Merritt; three sisters, Juanita Green, Edna Denman, and Marzee Basil; and two brothers, Webster Lintz and John Lintz.
Surviving are her daughters, Karen & Biff Harris of Morley, Brenda & Ron Tipton, and Michelle & Jeff Bannen, all of Greenville; a son-in-law, Kim Merritt of Greenville; her grandchildren, Mike & Angie Pretzel, Laura & Jim Hill, Trever & Amanda Merritt, Kathy & Herb Cavendish, Biffy Jr. & Tifenie Harris, Scott Harris, Adam Tipton & Kristina McQueen, Amber & Eric Kubec, Joshua Waber, Whitney Waber & Josh Ray, Felisha Bannen, and Meagan Bannen; nineteen great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a sister, Connie & Don Maness; two brothers, Dorance Lintz and Marshall Lintz; two sisters-in-law, Nitabelle Lintz and Elaine VanLeeuwen; many, many nieces and nephews; and several very special neighbors and friends.
Visitation is Monday from 5-7 p.m. at the Christiansen Cremation & Funeral Care, 511 S. Franklin Street, Greenville, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Julia's nephew, Rev. Jim Maness will officiate and burial will follow at East Montcalm Cemetery.
