John Wendel

John Donald Wendel Sr., age 89, of Cedar Springs, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2025, at Greenville Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born November 10, 1935, in Hastings, Michigan to the late Donald and Beatrice (Baum) Wendel. John served in the Army in Korea and joined his father’s farm after he was discharged. He then went to work for E. W. Bliss in Hastings, before moving on to work for Elders Sawmill as foreman during his later years. Survivors include his sister, Betty (Wendel) Cooper; his son, John (Cande) Wendel; his daughter, Connie (Pete) Tossava; and various grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a dear friend and neighbor, Sam Hawley who he thought of as a second son. John was preceded in death by his parents, Donald & Beatrice (Baum) Wendel; his sister, Joanne (Wendel) Phairas; daughters, Julie (Wendel) Bohley and Ella (Wendel) Ulrich; and one niece. Per his wishes cremation has taken place and no formal services are being held at this time.
