James Herbert Liepe, 78, of Pullman, MI passed away in his sleep on December 26, 2024. Jim was born in Douglas, MI on March 6, 1946 to Jack (Julius) and Frances Liepe. He and his brother Bruce attended St. Peters Catholic School and were altar boys. Later the family attended Ganges United Methodist Church and Jim and Bruce were active in the Boy Scouts. Jim achieved The Order of the Arrow, something he was proud of.
In 1964 Jim graduated from Fennville High school and began working at Home Furnace, Holland. He worked at Fleetwood Furniture and then at 1st Choice Marine. He retired in 2009 from Uniform Color as material Handler.
Jim and his wife Dian enjoyed many camping adventures and traveling in their motorhome. There were also road trips and Amtrak trips around the country. Although Jim was a quiet man he will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. A lifetime learner, Jim’s interest led him to explore the internet researching topics such as quantum physics, religion, Bob Dylan, and ancient history. He was a devoted Detroit Lions Football fan and enjoyed Tiger baseball as well.
Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Julius and Ethel Liepe, father, Julius (Jack) Liepe, father-in-law John Schlack, sister-in-law Wanda, brother-in-law Paul and second wife Gini Wolff.
Jim is survived by his wife of 32 years Dian (Schlack) Liepe, mother Frances Liepe, Brother Bruce Liepe, Sister Janice (Liepe) Darling, and first wife Kay (Rich) Kool. Children: Robert (Jennifer) Liepe, Mark (Wendy) Liepe, Jonathan (Jeanne) Liepe, Cari (Roger) Lucas, Rebecca Hart and Brian (Tara) Liepe; 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and in-laws.
To celebrate Jim’s life, we will gather on Saturday, March 8th at Casco United Methodist Church, 880 66th Street, South Haven, MI 49090. Visitation at 11:00am. Service at Noon. Followed by a light luncheon. The service will also be on Youtube for those unable to attend.
