Fredia S. Matthews Obituary (1954 - 2019)

Fredia S. Matthews, age 64, of Orleans, formerly of the Greenville area, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Spectrum Health Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Grand Rapids. The daughter of David & Lillian (Greene) Munson, she was born on May 21, 1954 in Clare. On December 1, 2000, she married Guy L. Matthews and together they enjoyed 18 years of marriage and worked together as over-the-road truck drivers having completed over a million miles together. In the winter months, they would work a security guards at the oil rigs in Texas. Fredia had attended Greenville New Testament Church since 1978, enjoyed refinishing furniture and home remodeling, was a skilled seamstress, and enjoyed tending her lawn and gardens. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Wanita Matthews. Surviving are her husband, Guy Matthews of Orleans; their children, Kenneth & Kendra Middling of Ypsilanti, David & Rasheeda Middling of Mandan, North Dakota, and James & Megan Matthews of Caledonia; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mary & Rex Cline of Lansing, and Arlene Nicholas of Lansing; her mother-in-law, Clara "Peggy" Wheeler of Greenville; siblings-in-law, Alvin Matthews of Lakeview, Steve & Sue Matthews of Greenville, Fonda & Larry Jones of Turk Lake, and Jillene Wheeler of Grand Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside committal services are at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at Rest Haven Memory Gardens, Belding, with Pastor John Paepke officiating. Honoring her wishes, no visitation will be held.
