Earl Geselman

February 1, 1937 — December 29, 2020

Earl Eugene "Gene" Geselman, age 83, of Hubbardston, passed away on December 29, 2020 at Country Friends Assisted Living in Sumner. The son of Arnold & Ida Mae (Knapp) Geselman, he was born on February 01, 1937 in Crystal. On September 24, 1956 in Hubbardston, he married Susan Kay LaSarge, who survives, and together, they enjoyed 64 years of marriage. Gene worked at General Motors and retired after 32 years of service. A true family man, he thought the world of his grandkids, and loved keeping up on what was going on in their lives. He enjoyed racing stock cars in his younger years, and later teaching his grandson, Gabe, the tricks of the trade-even sneaking a dune buggy from the garage (without Grandma knowing), to teach Gabe how to drive a stick shift! A true outdoorsman, Gene enjoyed deer hunting and his trips to Michigan's U.P. (Ralph) and would set up his tent and make sure all were fed by being the camp chef. It wasn't so much if he got a deer on these many trips, it was the camaraderie and fellowship with those around him. He lived for camping and fishing trips at Sanderson Lake in Greenville and in Canada with friends and family, especially when they caught their bass and ate them! Never knowing a stranger, he would help anyone who needed it. He had a knack for fixing cars, bikes, and almost anything that needed fixin'. He was known as the town "mechanic" and always found time to help anyone in anyway he could. He had a love for growing his garden each year, and delighted in giving away his "garden goodies" to family, friends, and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents; his father and mother-in-law, Orville & Lillian LaSarge; his brothers, Lloyd Gesselman and Raymond Gesselman; and his brother and sister-in-law, Duane & Mick LaSarge. Surviving are his wife, Susan Kay Geselman; their three children, Kenny Geselman, Becky & Doug Proctor, and Kevin & Emily Geselman; six grandchildren, Jeff & Julia Proctor, Breane & Brandon Warner, John & Stephanie Geselman, Caleb Geselman, Maria Geselman, and Gabe Geselman; two great-grandsons, Owen Proctor and Harrison Warner; sisters-in law, Becky Gesselman and Rita Gesselman; his brother, Larry & Linnea Isham; and many nieces, nephews, neighbors, and friends. Graveside services will be held at North Plains Cemetery, and a celebration of life gathering for family and friends will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions in memory of Gene to the activities fund at Country Friends Assisted Living or to The Care Team Hospice for their excellent care and compassion. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Christiansen's Michigan Cremation & Funeral Care, Greenville (616) 754-5638.
