Alice Justine Valentine, age 90, of Greenville, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Spectrum Health-United Rehab & Nursing Center in Greenville. The daughter of William & Mildred (Acosta) Sullwold, she was born on December 20, 1925 in Jacksonville, Florida.
A proud United States Marine Corps veteran, Justine served during the Korean War , and met a fellow Marine, Marvin B. Valentine. They were married on October 7, 1953 at the U.S. Navy Submarine Base Chapel at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. After both Justine & Marv were discharged, they made their home in Mt. Clemens and until moving to Clare where they ran Camp Rotary for the Boy Scouts of America for 31 years. For over 30 years she was always there for homesick first time scouts, offered motherly advice, a kind word, and was proud to be called "mom" by many young men, women, and staff members.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Marv Valentine of Greenville; their son and daughter-in-law, Gary & Tracy Valentine of Greenville; three granddaughters, Leslie Roberts of Greenville, Shawna & Rene Cavazos of Pierson, and Ashley & Matt Ray of Greenville; her great grandchildren, Kaden Roberts, Kylie Roberts, Chasity Cavazos, Courtney Cavazos, Chloe Cavazos, Andrew Ray, and Molly Ray; two "adopted" sons, Gabriel Ismaio of Missouri, and Steve Grey of White Cloud; and a brother-in-law, William Valentine of Texas.
A memorial service will be held at Camp Rotary, 3201 S. Clare Ave., Clare, Michigan on Sunday, August 21 at 1:00 p.m. Final interment will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery near Battle Creek.
